Get a Library Card
Residents of Grafton are eligible for Grafton Public Library cards. We need to see a picture ID as well as proof of current address. A valid driver's license with your current address is fine, as is a photo ID plus something with your address such as a utility bill.
Your first card is free. Replacement cards cost $1. Please stop by the library to fill out an application.

Grafton Public Library belongs to the C/W MARS network, which means you can use your Grafton card at any Central Massachusetts library. Likewise, we also accept any Central Massachusetts card at the Grafton library. Click here for a list of participating public libraries.
Borrow Materials
You must bring your card to the library in order to check out materials. Most items may be checked out for three weeks. Exceptions are magazines, DVDs, videos, and Current Choices new bestsellers, all of which check out for one week.
Renewals for another three weeks (or one week, depending on the type of material) are possible as long as another patron does not have a request on the item.
Renewals may be done in person, on the phone, or online. You must have your card with you.
If you come into the library without your card, you may check out up to three items provided you have some form of ID.
Grafton patrons may use the online catalog to place requests on items either checked out from us or not owned by us. You will need to create an account for yourself in order to use these services.
Fines and Limits
FINES
Books, CDs, audiobooks, magazines -- 10 cents per day (maximum $3)
DVDs, videos -- $1 per day (maximum $5)
Museum passes -- $5 per day
Note: Other libraries in the network may charge different fines. You may pay any fine at any participating library.
If you have $10 or more in fines and/or replacement costs, your account will be blocked and you will not be able to check out more materials until you pay.
You may pay fines or lost/damaged replacement costs, or make a donation to your library by credit card by accessing your account online.
To use your credit card you must have more than $5.00 in fines and/or replacement costs. You will have to log in to your library account. Receipts will be emailed to the address on your account.
Donations may be given by clicking the "Donations" link at the top right of the library catalog screen.
For additional information and full instructions please ask for the C/WMARS ECommerce brochure or click "Help" at the top right of the library catalog screen and then the "Pay Online" tab.
LIMITS
You may have up to 50 items checked out on your card, but CDs, videos, and audiobooks have a limit of 20 per type.
You may have up to 10 outstanding requests on your card.
Keep Track of What I've Borrowed
Because of privacy issues, the C/W MARS system does not keep a record of what patrons have borrowed. Once an item is checked in, it is off your account.
However, you can personally keep track of your borrowing by creating an online account and activating "My Reading History."
To create your online account >>
To activate your reading history:
- Log in using the link in the upper right of the screen.
- Click the button for "My Reading History" on the right.
- Click the button to "Opt In" on the left.
->
You can choose to opt out at a later point. Just follow the instructions on the screen. Be careful, though, because all of the items in your history will be erased. You may choose to opt back in and start your history afresh.
Donate Items
Donations to the Down Under Bookstore are most welcome. Donated gently used books, CDs, or videos should be in good unmarked saleable condition. Magazines, textbooks, Reader's Digest Condensed Books, and outdated, old or ugly books are not useful, and the Friends ask to be saved the trouble and expense of disposing of them.
Donations may be left in the plastic bins at the bottom of the stairs near the bookstore. Please do not put donations in the book drops.
